A big part of what we do at JCS are projects and partnerships. Projects are interventions for which JCS takes primary responsibility. For example: to find professionally qualified volunteers, hire Mongolian employees, secure funding, etc.

A partnership, on the other hand, is where JCS places a professionally qualified volunteer in a project or position where another partner organization has the ultimate responsibility. This could be a school, hospital, local government office or even another NGO.

In both cases JCS strives to follow sound development principles like participation by the local beneficiaries in planning and evaluating interventions, avoiding dependency and focusing on sustainability. We aim to work closely with local partners including church groups and local government.

Although most of our projects have a relatively small budget, JCS is able to give maximum benefit because our professionally qualified volunteers come fully supported and are mostly committed to Mongolia for the long term. JCS also emphasizes language study which, although time consuming, makes workers much more effective change agents.

Our JCS projects cover a wide range of sectors including leadership and character development, education, English as a second language training, health, agriculture and business. In addition, JCS is not only focused on working in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, but also has teams in Erdenet, Zuunkhaara and in the western provinces of Bayankhongor, Gobi Altai and Zavkhan.
